Munro backs Black Caps to end Pakistan’s winning-run in T20I
Hard-hitting batsman Colin Munro is confident the current New Zealand squad is capable of beating the top-ranked Pakistan side in the upcoming three-match T20I series, which will begin from Wednesday in Abu Dhabi.
The Sarfraz Ahmed-led unit recently registered a comprehensive 3-0 series win against third-ranked Australia in the T20I series.
But Munro, who is famous for his aggressive style of play, believes the current Black Caps side is more than capable of giving a tough time to the Green Caps.
“It is a big challenge [to face Pakistan] especially in these conditions as few guys are coming straight out of the winter and has not played much cricket of late,” said Munro while talking to New Zealand Cricket website. “But obviously people will believe those are excuses. So we’ve got to go and play our brand of cricket and hopefully its good enough on the day. [We are] very confident. Even in these types of conditions if we play well, play to our strengths and potential, we know we can beat anyone on the day.”
He added: “Hopefully it can all come together in the first game and we keep building on that through the series. There are a couple of new faces, but everyone has played for New Zealand anyway so it’s like rejoining the family after going on a sabbatical for a year overseas. Everyone is in good spirits and looking forward to the first game.”
Munro, who recently took part in the Afghanistan Premier League (APL), which was played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), believes playing in the competition was a good experience.
“Obviously the conditions in Abu Dhabi and Dubai will be different as compared to Sharjah,” he said. “
“They usually have lower and slower wickets here, as seen in the series against Australia. Having said that, playing in the APL was a good learning experience.”
