Thumb injury rules Diana Baig out of South Africa tour

Diana Baig has been ruled out of Pakistan’s tour of South Africa following an injury to her left thumb. Uncapped Fatima Sana will replace Diana, who underwent surgery on Tuesday in Karachi. Diana has been advised eight to ten weeks rest following the surgery.
Baig's loss has left a hole in Pakistan's bowling attack, especially after her heroics against West Indies in Pakistan's last ODI outing. The 23-year-old pace bowler registered 4 for 34 and 3 for 42 in the second and third ODIs which Pakistan won to clinch their first-ever ODI series win over West Indies.
Chief selector of Pakistan’s women team Urooj Mumtaz expressed her disappointment at Diana’s injury, adding that South Africa tour provides a good opportunity for Fatima to prove her worth.
"It was unfortunate that Diana fractured her left thumb during practice yesterday. Thankfully the surgery was a success and I wish her a speedy recovery. Diana has been replaced by Fatima Sana, a young promising fast bowler and I wish her all the best.”
Fatima took seven wickets in as many games for ZTBL in the recently concluded 2nd Inter-Departmental T20 Women’s Cricket Championship.
Pakistan team will leave for South Africa on 29 April. The team will play a series of three ODIs (part of the ICC Women’s Championship), five T20Is and two warm-up games in their 25-day tour.
